Lloyd's List Intelligence Expands Global AIS Coverage with Kinéis Satellite Partnership

Lloyd's List Intelligence (LLI) signed a strategic partnership with French satellite operator Kinéis on February 5, 2026, adding satellite AIS data to its existing terrestrial and shipborne networks and creating a multi-tier data ecosystem that strengthens vessel tracking in areas where traditional signals are weakest. The partnership enhances LLI's AIS capabilities across its product suite, with Kinéis available as an optional addition to AIS SeaOrbis, the next-generation vessel tracking solution. Operational value for fleet managers: For ship managers overseeing geographically dispersed fleets, the addition of Kinéis' modern satellite constellation reduces dependence on any single data source and improves monitoring continuity. The practical benefit lies in more reliable visibility of vessel movements, particularly in remote ocean regions where AIS data can be intermittent or delayed. Improved position accuracy and faster detection help operators maintain fleet oversight, support regulatory obligations, and respond more effectively to operational disruptions. Strategic context: The AIS market is growing rapidly as vessel tracking becomes inseparable from fleet management, compliance, and risk assessment. GPS spoofing incidents affecting 11,600+ vessels in recent years, dark fleet monitoring challenges, and sanctions compliance pressures are driving demand for resilient, multi-source tracking data that cannot be compromised by single-point failures. LLI Chief Data Officer Parvin Conners stated: "This partnership with Kinéis strengthens the foundational AIS data our customers trust for unmatched global visibility." Kinéis Chief Commercial Officer Cécile Morel emphasized: "By strengthening access to reliable and resilient AIS data, including in the most complex areas, we are proud to address the new surveillance, risk-management, and decision-making challenges facing the sector today." Since launching services in June 2025, Kinéis has delivered satellite AIS designed to complement existing terrestrial infrastructure — its constellation provides global coverage across both high-traffic corridors and remote ocean areas with high revisit rates and low latency, capabilities increasingly critical as maritime operations expand into previously undermonitored regions.
